DogHouse Restaurant in Duncan says it will remain closed until at least Jan. 25 after one of their employees tested positive for COVID-19.

A restaurant in the Cowichan Valley has temporarily shut its doors due to the coronavirus.

DogHouse Restaurant in Duncan says it will remain closed until at least Jan. 25 after one of their employees tested positive for COVID-19.

The popular Duncan restaurant made the announcement in a post on Facebook, saying that although health officials told the restaurant it could remain open, ownership felt it was the necessary move to close temporarily.

“Closing voluntarily has been a difficult decision. We feel that to continue being an industry leader in the valley, it is a sacrifice we must make to remain transparent with the community and our staff to ensure their health and safety,” the post reads.

DogHouse Restaurant, located along the Trans-Canada Highway, south of Trunk Road, has been in operation since the 1950s.

“Again, we feel it necessary to point out that this closing is not mandated by health authorities, but by the ownership of the DogHouse Restaurant. Our number one priority is to ensure the safety of our guests and employees,” adds the post.

The DogHouse Restaurant is not the only facility in Duncan that has temporarily closed its doors due to COVID-19 in recent weeks.

Earlier on Monday, Duncan Christian School revealed that it will be closing operations until February 1 amid multiple COVID-19 exposures.
