A Duncan man has been charged after he was arrested last Friday for allegedly trafficking opioids.

On March 8, in the late evening, 29-year-old Andrew Robert Brotherston was arrested near Alexander Street in Duncan while police were investigating local fentanyl trafficking.

More than 18 grams of suspected opioids, over 1 ounce of methamphetamine, 12 grams of cocaine and over $2,000 in cash was seized, North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP said.

Police said Brotherston is a chronic offender who is known to police. He has been charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and obstruction for providing a false name upon his arrest.

He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Duncan Provincial Court on March 19.
