Driver not seriously injured after rollover crash in Central Saanich

No one was seriously injured in a rollover crash on Wallace Drive in Central Saanich Thursday night.

Central Saanich police said they received multiple 911 calls at 8:55 p.m. about a crash on Wallace Drive at Hagan Road.

When officers arrived at the crash, the driver was standing on the sidewalk and only had minor abrasions.

Police said the driver was going southbound on Wallace Drive in his red 2015 Dodge pickup truck when he attempted to pass two vehicles while speeding.

According to police, the driver then lost control of his truck and slammed into a rock face before rolling several times. He got himself out of the vehicle, which was extensively damaged.

The driver received a three-day immediate roadside suspension, a three-day vehicle impound and a violation ticket for drive without due care and drive contrary to restrictions (no blood alcohol). He was treated by paramedics at the scene of the crash then released.

Cpl. Dan Cottingham, community engagement officer with the Central Saanich Police Service said the driver was novice driver and was not allowed to drive with any alcohol in him. While the driver was under the limit for a Criminal code charge (0.08 milligram of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood), Cottingham said he was within the warn range, which is a Blood Alcohol Content of not less than 0.05 mg/100 ml.
