According to a press release, the incident took place at approximately 2 a.m on Monday morning when police were informed that a vehicle had struck a hydro pole in the Fernwood neighbourhood.

The crash happened along the 1900-block of Fernwood Avenue.

When police arrived on scene, the vehicle was on its side and the hydro pole was being only supported by its wires.

The driver of the only vehicle involved — also the only occupant — was transported to the hospital by BC Emergency Health Services with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The road was shut down for a temporary amount of time as Victoria Fire Department and BC Hydro staff worked to make the area safe.

An investigation has been launched as Victoria Police try to determine the facts of the incident.
