A COVID-19 testing clinic with a drive-thru has been opened along Cook Street in Victoria.

On Sunday and Monday, vehicles were seen heading into a pop-up drive-thru test station, complete with nurses in full protective wear handing out test kits.

The nurses could be seen handing out the kits into car windows and security was manning the property.

According to a release sent out by Island Health on Friday, COVID-19 screening clinics are operating on a referral-only basis.

The organization also plans on opening similar screening clinics in other Vancouver Island communities as soon as possible. This would include Nanaimo, Comox Valley and Campbell River.

In order to get further information on COVID-19, the province has revealed a new hotline: call 1-888-COVID-19 or text 604-630-0300.

Earlier Monday, Dr. Bonnie Henry announced that there are seven confirmed new cases on Vancouver Island. That brings the total up to eight. At this point in time, the specific area of each case has not been released, however, a Courtenay doctor revealed that at least one of those cases is in the Comox Valley.
