A dog has been killed by a cougar in Port Hardy late Saturday Night.

RCMP and conservation officers responded to a residents back yard on Market Street just before 9 p.m., after the owner found their dog had been killed.

Officials say the dog had teeth marks that most likely indicated a cougar attack.

Conservation officers placed a trap after the incident to catch the animal, the trap was empty in the morning.

RCMP say that there have been multiple cougar sightings over the last few weeks in town and also near Port Alice.
