Oak Bay police say a cyclist was taken to hospital and a driver was ticketed following a crash last week.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Cadboro Bay Road and Bowker Creek Avenue on June 3, according to the Oak Bay Police Department (OBPD).

OBPD says the cyclist was heading north along Cadboro Bay Road when the car, which was stopped at a stop sign on Bowker Avenue, failed to yield to the cyclist and struck them as they attempted to turn left onto Cadboro Bay Road.

The cyclist was taken to hospital but was relatively uninjured, and only reported some muscle soreness, according to police.

Meanwhile, the 54-year-old driver was handed a $167 ticket for failing to yield on a left turn.

Police say the crash resulted in approximately $5,000 in damage, including to the front fork of the bicycle, and to the front quarter panel of the car.
