CRD recycling pick-up facing ongoing issues; further delays expected

The Capital Regional District is warning of further delays in recycling pickup as Emterra, the company responsible for collecting recycling in the region, is facing issues.

Due to the snow and other adverse weather, some residents have not had their recycling picked up for several weeks, and the CRD says they may have to wait until their next collection date.

Recycling collection is taking place between 7:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. every day, but the company will not be making extra trips to collect recycling that was missed on previous days.

The CRD says on top of the weather, Emterra is facing issues with higher-than-normal material volumes, staffing challenges and supply chain issues that are impacting equipment maintenance.

If recycling hasn’t been picked up by 9 p.m., residents are asked to bring in their recycling until the next collection day.

There is also the issue to bring paper, cardboard and mixed containers to a recycling depot for free.
