The upcoming episode of the Canadian competition TV series, airing Tuesday, July 25, takes viewers to south Vancouver Island, where contestants visit various landmarks including Craigdarroch Castle, the Victoria Bug Zoo and the Malahat Skywalk.

“It’s fright night in the middle of the day as racers go for ghoul and fight their fears,” said Jon Montgomery, the series’ host, in a teaser showing clips of Craigdarroch Castle and the bug zoo.

“Rivals face off in fatigues in Victoria, B.C., and try to hit the perfect pitch. And it’s a breeze for some, but others are left winded,” added Montgomery, as contestants participate in a boot camp before paddling in local waters.

On July 18, staff at the Malahat Skywalk teased that the attraction would appear on “The Amazing Race Canada,” posting to Facebook a photo with the caption, “Attention all thrill-seekers! Some may call it a cross country competition… some may call it a race… any guesses on who was here recently?”

Yet this isn’t the series’ first visit to the South Island. In 2018, the starting line for the sixth season was at Hatley Castle at Royal Roads University in Colwood.

The series’ ninth and current season was filmed in the spring of 2023, when the cast and crew visited various locations in Canada like Winnipeg, Man., Toronto, Ont., and Eastern Passage, N.S. Last week’s episode saw contestants race through Vancouver, Whistler and Pemberton.

“(Ten) teams embark on the race of a lifetime, all vying for the grand prize at the finish line,” reads this season’s synopsis.

Victoria wasn’t too far a trek for two teams.

Originally from Richmond, B.C., married couple Allie and Eddie currently live in Courtenay and were eliminated during the second episode, while Tyler and Kayleen from the Comox Valley are still in the running to win the $250,000 grand prize.
