High levels of fine particulates are the cause of an air quality advisory Monday morning for the Cowichan Valley.

The Environment Ministry and Island Health issued the advisory and say conditions are expected to persist until weather conditions change.

Anyone with chronic illnesses is suggested to stay away from strenuous exercise until the advisory is lifted.

Open burning is also restricted in the Cowichan Valley within 15 kilometres of Duncan City Hall for the next three days.

That means no new fires can be started and no materials are allowed to be added to existing fires.
