Island Health has declared the COVID-19 outbreak over at Hart House long-term care home in Victoria.

There are no longer any COVID-19 cases related to the outbreak at the home after the facility implemented “comprehensive strategies” to prevent and respond to COVID-19 in long-term care.

Island Health declared an outbreak at Hart House on January 9 after one staff member tested positive for COVID-19. According to the health authority, no other cases in residents or staff were identified through extensive follow-up testing.

Hart House is owned and operated by Trillium Communities.

“The team at Hart House and Trillium is to be commended for their exceptional work ensuring no residents were affected by this outbreak and continuing to provide high-quality care under challenging circumstances,” said Island Health in an information bulletin on Thursday.

“Upon declaring the outbreak, Island Health took immediate action to support the home in its response to protect the health of all residents and staff.”

With the outbreak now declared over, social visits can resume as of Thursday, January 21, as well as admissions and transfers.

Congregate dining will also resume, with COVID-19 safety protocols in place. Diligent infection prevention and control measures and appropriate use of personal protective equipment will continue, said Island Health.

On Thursday, health officials say there were no new health care outbreaks in the province, but Island Health saw its greatest spike in daily cases.
