Island Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak in a Nanaimo care centre.
Island Health said in a press release Sunday three cases have been identified in the Hummingbird Unit of Chartwell Malaspina Care Centre. They say two staff members and one resident have tested positive for COVID-19 in the unit.
Island Health says the outbreak has been declared only for the Hummingbird Unit and the origin of the outbreak hasn’t been determined.
The following protocols have been put in place for the unit:
-
Residents and staff have been isolated to the unit
-
All social visitation, admissions and transfers have been stopped
-
Enhanced cleaning protocols and use of personal protective equipment
-
Island Health continues to support the outbreak response
-
Staffing levels and supply of personal protective equipment are being closely monitored and Island Health is supporting where needed, to ensure safe resident care continues
The rest of the facility is under “enhanced surveillance”, according to Island Health.
