COVID-19 exposure event reported at View Royal Elementary School

Another school on Vancouver Island has reported a COVID-19 exposure event.

View Royal Elementary School experienced a COVID-19 exposure event on Jan. 27, according to the Greater Victoria School District (SD61).

“Island Health is conducting contract tracing. If an individual may have been exposed, Island Health will contact them directly,” the school district said in a post on social media.

View Royal Elementary School has been added to Island Health’s school exposure list.

A handful of other schools on Vancouver Island, including Lake Cowichan School, Shawnigan Lake School, École Ballenas Secondary School in Parksville and École Macaulay Elementary School in Esquimalt have recently experienced exposure events.

Island Health defines an exposure event within a school as the “presence of lab confirmed COVID-19 case(s) in the school” during an infected individual’s period of communicability.
