The province says job fairs will be held in Courtenay and Port Alberni next week to recruit potential employees for BC Cannabis Stores in each community.

The Courtenay event will take place next Monday from noon to 7 p.m. at the Best Western Westerly Hotel.

The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) will hold another job fair in Port Alberni the following day from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Best Western Plus Barclay Hotel.

Both stores are looking for a store manager, two assistant managers, six full-time cannabis consultants and eight part-time employees.

The province both stores are expected to be open by the end of the year.

The Courtenay store will be located within the Washington Park Shopping Centre on Ryan Road and the Port Alberni store will be set up within the Pacific Rim Shopping Centre on Johnston Road.

Kamloops remains the only city in B.C. to have a BC Cannabis Store operating since recreational marijuana became legal in Canada last October.

The LDB said in February that efforts to roll out more stores in the province continue, with municipal approval granted for a store in Campbell River in January, although no timeline has been given on when it will open.

The province says successful candidates hired for these positions will go through extensive training and undergo an enhanced security screening check, in accordance with the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act.
