Fire crews are still putting out hot spots from a small wildfire in Sooke.
Just after 1:30 p.m., crews were called to a wildfire near Cedar Park Place and Henlyn Drive.
Sooke Fire Chief Kenn Mount said 15 firefighters from Sooke Fire Rescue, the Otter Point Volunteer Fire Department and the Metchosin Fire Department are all working on the fire.
The fire is in steep terrain and is contained. Mount said it is not fully under control as they are dealing with active flames and hot spots. But crews were able to stop the flames from getting up into the tree canopy.

According to Mount, the fire is a rank 2 or low vigour surface fire. Characteristics of a rank 2 fire include: visible, open flame, unorganised or inconsistent flame front and a slow rate of speed.

The firefighting tactics often used are: direct attacks with ground crews using handtools, water delivery systems, or heavy equipment, and hand constructed control lines and lines that have been cleared of combustible material.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
