‘Copious amounts’: Rainfall warning issued for parts of eastern Vancouver Island

Rain, lots of it, is on the way to parts of Vancouver Island.

Environment and Climate Change Canada on Saturday issued a rainfall warning for eastern Vancouver Island from Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay due to an atmospheric river event starting late Saturday afternoon.

“A significant atmospheric river event will bring copious amounts of rain and near-record temperatures to the B.C. south coast beginning late this afternoon,” the weather agency said in a statement on its website.

Environment Canada says anywhere from 50 mm to 70 mm of rain is expected in the region by Monday (Nov. 15) morning, with the heaviest rain occurring on Sunday afternoon and Sunday night.

“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible,” the agency warns.

The rain is expected to ease on Monday.
