Construction slows traffic to a crawl along Highway 1

Highway 1 slowed to a crawl in both directions west of Victoria on Saturday, with traffic backing up into Helmcken Rd. as well.

Weekend commuters posted photos showing near bumper-to-bumper conditions along the Highway.

The apparent cause of the delays was planned construction at McKenzie Ave, with road speeds reduced to 60 km/h.

Witnesses say that eastbound traffic was backed up past Thetis Lake.

By 3 p.m., highway cameras showed traffic moving smoothly along the Highway.
