Comox Valley RCMP investigators are hoping additional witnesses will come forward after a man was arrested for impersonating a police officer.

Around 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 6, the suspect followed a man from Courtenay to his home in Cumberland. The suspect approached the victim and said he was an off-duty police officer.

“Several witnesses, including the victim, were keen enough to realize something was not right and called police,” Const. Monika Terragni, media relations officer for the Comox Valley RCMP said in a release. “Fortunately, a police officer was in the area, quickly arrived and arrested the suspect.”

Investigators are hoping to speak with additional witnesses who have not yet spoken with police.

The suspect is described as a tall 40-year-old man who weighs approximately 80kg with a shaved head and short cropped beard. He was driving a black Dodge Ram 1500 with silver decals, a black cargo rack, and stickers on the back window that say “K9 on Duty”.

He has been charged with multiple offences including impersonating a police officer.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Comox Valley RCMP at (250) 338-1321 and refer to file 2023-12539.
