Two people have been rescued after a fire broke out on board a boat off the shores of Qualicum Beach.

A spokesperson with The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre said crews were able to rescue the two occupants from the 40-foot vessel.

The two were transported to shore and checked by Emergency Health Services for smoke inhalation.

The JRCC says there are 1,000 litres of diesel and three propane tanks on board.

Coast Guards are monitoring the fire as they wait for the blaze to extinguish itself.
