The City of Victoria said it is looking at further measures after a skateboarder was seen on a restricted area of the Johnson Street Bridge, past the pedestrian-only walkway.

A photo posted by “Gary H” on Vibrant Victoria on Sept. 8 shows the skateboarder on a concrete section of the south side of the bridge.  According to the person who posted the picture, the skateboarder was on the narrower bridge ring.

The city said it is aware of the incident and says “while it’s difficult to determine what lengths an individual will go to in order to access a restricted area, staff are looking at further measures to prevent this type of activity.”

The city also said prior to the opening of the pedestrian-only walkway and bascule pier observation deck, a review was done to ensure public safety. There are also fences and gates to prevent access to potentially dangerous areas of the bridge.
