Many took to social media to inquire about a circular cloud seen in Victoria yesterday, and experts say the likely cause was an airplane.
Armel Castellan, meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada told CHEK News the cloud was likely formed by an airplane in a holding pattern, circling the region,
He says the entrance and exit of its contrail would have evaporated much sooner, leaving behind the circle.
As shown by Keith Vass, CHEK News’ assignment editor, the formation of the cloud could be seen on the Swans Hotel Victoria Inner Harbour Webcam.

Many on social media were asking how the cloud formed, and some meteorologists and climate experts chimed in with the same explanation as Castellan.
Contrail. From a jet flying in a circle.

Looks like a contrail from a low altitude plane going in a circle over Victoria to me.

Others also had a more tongue-in-cheek extraterrestrial theory.

While the cloud formation remained, many people posted pictures online of the “cool cloud formation.”
