Artistic director Michael Shamata adapted ?A Christmas Carol? many years ago and each Christmas tweaks the story and staging a little bit more.

“It is simply the most powerful story that I know,? Shamata said.

It’s a very ambitious production with 14 actors led by Vancouver-based veteran Tom MacBeath, who manages to embody both the very evilest and the very merriest of Ebenezer Scoorge.

Supporting MacBeath are local favourites including Gerry MacKay, Celine Stubel and Amanda Lisman.

A Christmas Carol runs through Dec. 17 at the Belfry on Fernwood.
