CHEK Upside: Harbourcats launch unique promotion for season tickets

At the Victoria Harbourcats head office, tickets are flying out of the printer ahead of the 2022 season.

“It’s been so good to actually have a date now that we can say we can play ball,” says Harbourcats assistant general manager Christian J. Stewart.

After two years without baseball, the stands will once again be full at Royal Athletic Park come May 31 when the Harbourcats kick off their 2022 season at home against the Port Angeles Lefties.

“From the time we last played, which I believe was Aug. 16th of 2019, to May 31st of this year it will be 1,017 days since we’ve played a game at Royal Athletic Park,” says Stewart.

“So needless to say we’re excited to get baseball back and Harbourcats baseball back.”

During the pandemic lull the Harbourcats have seen incredible support from fans and season ticket holders alike.

“Even during COVID I think last year we had 35 new season ticket sales over a year where we weren’t doing anything,” says Stewart.

“This year that trend is continuing, since Easter we’ve probably had 12 new season ticket sales.”

The surge in season ticket sales has the Harbourcats launching a unique promotion to try and bring in even more sales.

If 50 new season tickets are purchased by Monday, May 9, Harbourcats owner John Wilson will have to sing the national anthem.

“Personally I thought it should be the other way around, sell 50 season ticket packages for me not to sing the national anthem,” says Stewart.

“So we’re going to try and make it happen and hopefully the business community steps up here this week and buys some season tickets.”

As for whether Wilson has any hidden vocal talents?

“Absolutely none, there’s no hidden singing talent at all,” laughs Wilson.

“It will be quite a display of lack of talent actually.”
