The Victoria Police are investigating two “smash and grab” break and enters at downtown businesses over the weekend.

In a police report issued on Monday, VicPD is warning the public after two similar break-ins occurred on back-to-back days – one on Saturday, Dec. 12, and one on Sunday, Dec. 13.

On Saturday morning, police said officers received a report of a break and enter to a business in the 900-block of Gordon Street.

Police determined that sometime overnight a suspect had smashed a glass door, gained entry into the business and stole several hundred dollars from the register.

According to investigators, there was no indication that an alarm was triggered and the break-in was not captured by video surveillance.

The following morning, officers received a similar report of a break and enter to a business in the 900-block of Fort Street. In this instance, police said a suspect had broken the glass on the front door of the business in a similar fashion.

The suspect gained entry and stole the cash float.

Police note that an alarm was triggered during this break-in, which was believed to have occurred at approximately 6 a.m. The incident was not captured by video surveillance.

“Officers are reminding business owners to never leave cash in registers overnight, turn on security alarms, and ensure video surveillance captures the front door to the business,” reads a statement from Victoria Police.

These files currently remain under investigation.
