Malahat car fire captured on camera Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters from the Langford Fire Department responded to a car fire on the Malahat near Tunnel Hill Sunday afternoon.

Videos and photos sent to CHEK News around 3:30 p.m. showed one car, which appeared to be an older model BMW, completely engulfed in flames in the northbound lanes.

Cpt. Simon Chadwick, fire officer with Langford Fire, tells CHEK News no injuries were reported. He says the fire isn’t considered suspicious, noting a mechanical issue with the vehicle likely sparked the blaze.

Paramedics were also on scene and, according to Chadwick, the highway was down to one lane northbound as fire crews waited for a tow truck to haul the vehicle away. He says traffic was backed up to West Shore Parkway.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
