Confirmed coronavirus cases in Canada has surpassed 600,000.

According to data available on Health Canada’s website, a total of 601,663 cases and 15,865 deaths had been reported nationwide as of Sunday evening.

The national total climbed over 600,000 after Quebec reported more than 7,600 new cases and Ontario reported nearly 3,000 cases yesterday.

Of the more than 600,000 cases, nearly 9,000 have been on First Nations reserves.

Infections have skyrocketed in Canada over the past two months, with more than 250,000 cases reported nationwide since Nov. 1.

As of Jan. 3, Quebec has reported 210,304 cases – the most of any province or territory. Quebec has also the highest number of reported deaths from the virus anywhere in Canada.

Meanwhile, health officials in British Columbia are getting set to provide their first COVID-19 update of 2021 this afternoon. Heading into the update, B.C. has reported 51,900 cases — including 928 in Island Health — and 901 deaths.

The province’s rate of testing, however, remains among the lowest in Canada at 189,905 tests per 1,000,000. Only two provinces — New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador — have lower testing rates.
