Canada Post issues red, yellow service alerts for most of country

Snow and severe weather is resulting in Canada Post issuing red or yellow service alerts for many parts across the country.

Due to the incoming winter storm, Canada Post has issued yellow or red service alerts for most of the country.

Red service alerts mean mail delivery is cancelled, and yellow means carriers will do their best to deliver but there may be delays.

Canada Post says on its website, “many” regions are under a red alert, and “most” are under yellow, but does not specify which alerts apply to which regions.

On Dec. 22, south Vancouver Island was placed under a yellow alert and all of Vancouver Island was placed under a yellow alert on Dec. 19.

CHEK News has reached out to Canada Post to clarify what level of alert Vancouver Island is under, and will update the story if a response is received.

For areas where Canada Post is delivering, residents are asked to remove snow and ice from driveways, walkways and around the mailbox; de-ice stairs, entrance, and the path to the mailbox with sand or salt; and keep stairs, handrails and the mailbox free of obstruction. These tips are to ensure the safety of Canada Post employees making deliveries.
