The annual holiday truck parade in Campbell River has moved online amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

As British Columbians continue to navigate a holiday season that has been limited with safety restrictions due to COVID-19, Campbell River has compiled footage from previous truck parades and created a virtual experience for residents to enjoy.

The Campbell River Chamber of Commerce says that footage of over 70 trucks has been compiled from the last three years, including drone shots and photos, in order to recreate the truck parade for virtual platforms.

“We were heartbroken when our plan was turned down by the provincial health authority, but then a plan came together with community partners and three weeks later we had a beautiful and truly spectacular VIRTUAL Truck Parade,” said Executive Director Jan Wade.
The virtual truck parade can be viewed on the Campbell River & District Chamber’s Youtube channel, Facebook page or on Shaw Spotlight Channel Four until Sunday, January 3rd.
Wade added, “We are so grateful to all the truckers and businesses who year after year turn their trucks into rolling works of art — it creates such a magical experience and while this year it is not in person, virtual is nearly as magical!”
The video was produced by Mary Ruth Snyder, Executive Director for the Campbell River & District Chamber of Commerce and edited by Dan Peruzzo from Shaw Spotlight
“It captured every part of the Parade over the years. I am truly honoured to be a part of the Parade and I thank all who assisted and helped you in not only putting this amazing video together but also who help you each and every year putting the parade together. Truly is remarkable.” said Rob Priestly with Bill Howich Chrysler Ltd.
Earlier this month, B.C. health officials announced that all events were to be cancelled until January 8 in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Gatherings have also been limited to immediate household members only.
The restrictions have resulted in many Vancouver Island holiday traditions having to suspend operations for the 2020 season.
