Byelection date set for Langford-Juan de Fuca Riding

One is for the seat of former B.C. Premier John Horgan held in the Langford-Juan de Fuca riding who retired earlier this year.

The writs have been issued for two vacant MLA ridings in British Columbia.

EARLIER TODAY: Byelection dates for two B.C. ridings to be set today, premier says

One is for the seat of former B.C. Premier John Horgan held in the Langford-Juan de Fuca riding. The other is for the Vancouver-Mount Pleasant riding.

The byelection is to be called on June 24, 2023.

The deadline for candidate nominations has been set for 1 p.m. on June 3.

Following the closure of nominations, the final list of candidates will be published on the Elections BC website.

To be eligible to vote in this byelection you must be:

  • A resident of either Langford-Juan de Fuca or Vancouver-Mount Pleasant,
  • 18 or older on June 24, 2023,
  • A Canadian citizen, and
  • A resident of B.C. since December 23, 2022.

Those that meet the eligibility criteria will then have to register to vote. Registration is open immediately and can be done by visiting the Elections BC website or by calling 1-800-661-8683,

Registration closes at midnight on June 14. Voters are encouraged to register early so they may receive the most up-to-date information on where to vote.

Currently, those in the Langford-Juan de Fuca riding can vote at the district’s electoral office, located in the Belmont Market Shopping Centre, in Langford. The final day to vote will be June 24.

The office hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Advanced voting will run from June 16 to June 21.
