Building success: A Nanaimo woman is a leader in the construction industry

It’s long been a man’s world but the construction industry is slowly changing.

More women than ever are joining the ranks thanks, in part, to women who have gone before, like Nanaimo’s Chiara Sulyok.

Though she’s always loved working with her hands, it wasn’t until she was 33 that Chiara looked to construction as a career.

In the time since, she’s worked as a carpenter, builder and property manager. She’s now a regional partner with Alair Homes and her job is advising and supporting other partners on Vancouver Island.

It hasn’t been an easy road but Chiara says when people tell her “no”, she works even harder to get what she wants.
