A brazen daytime theft from a Victoria bike store caught on camera is being shared, as a warning to other businesses.

Giant Bicycles Victoria says the incident took place on Friday around 11 a.m. at their location on Yates.

A man had been browsing bikes and had spoken to the staff earlier. The shop’s manager and other customers then left the front area of the store, and that’s when the man saw his chance.

“He waited for the perfect time and decided the grab the bike and head out the door,” said owner Tyson Schley.

“My manager Dylan heard that the chime went off and a pedal hit the door.”

The employee rushed out and caught up to the man allegedly walking calmly away from the business.

After a brief argument, the staff member was able to take the bike back — worth $1,100.

Schley says the incident was reported to police. The video online has gained around 16,000 views as of Monday evening.

“[We wanted to show people] how easy it is and how unsuspecting people can be,” he added.

After the video was released Schley says they got multiple tips which they forwarded to police.
