Nanaimo RCMP says a couple on their honeymoon from Belgium got a “rude welcome” to the Harbour City as thieves stole their E-bike last weekend.

Police say they decided to take a hike around 2 p.m. Saturday to Collier Dam and parked their motor-home in the upper parking lot, and secured their bike to the rack on the motor-home.

They returned about 90 minutes later to find the bike, valued at nearly $15,000, had been taken from the rack and the lock that secured it had been cut and found lying on the ground.

“We reached out to the couple for more details on the make and model, and serial number for the bike but we have not received a call back,” said Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien in a release.

“They are most likely continuing their travels but sadly without their very expensive bike.”

RCMP provided pictures of the bike Wednesday morning.

Anyone with information on the location of the bike or who is responsible for the theft is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
