BC Transit and the Victoria Regional Transit Commission say cyclists will be able to ride city buses for free during Go By Bike Week, which runs Oct. 3 to 16.
Participants must use a bus bike rack or show their bike helmet when boarding to ride for free, according to BC Transit in a news release.
All BC Transit buses are equipped with bike racks at the front, and the company says representatives will be at Saanich Municipal Hall on Oct. 6 from 3:30-6 p.m. demonstrating how to use them.
It’s noted, however, that cyclists cannot use bike racks on community or smaller fleet buses at night as they obstruct bus headlights.
The free ride promotion for cyclists comes as Greater Victoria gas prices continue to soar. In recent months, B.C. officials have encouraged commuters to opt for public transit to reduce travel costs.
