A major power outage that at its peak affected more than 84,000 BC Hydro customers on the South Island Friday has quickly been resolved.
BC Hydro reported just after 1 p.m. that tens of thousands of customers lost power due to a “transmission circuit failure,” affecting many homes and businesses including Uptown Centre and some schools on the West Shore.
Other outages affected customers on the West Shore, Duncan, Saanich, Oak Bay and Victoria.
Sooke School District reported it had a “number of schools” experiencing outages, though it later confirmed power had been restored.
BC Hydro crews arrived on scene to the transmission circuit failure by 1:30 p.m. to resolve it and by 2:30 p.m., all of the outages had been restored.
Many of our schools are currently experiencing power outages in the Langford and Colwood area.
We’re working to determine all affected and will update. You may not be able to get ahold of schools by phone or email at this time.
