BC Ferries has announced multiple cancellations on Tuesday morning as high winds hit Vancouver Island.

On the ferry company’s website, it indicates that the majority of BC Ferries’ major sailings during the late morning and early afternoon on January 5 have been cancelled.

The decision comes after Environment Canada issued warnings of very strong winds and heavy rainfall on Monday morning.

Here are the current cancellations for BC Ferries on the major routes:

Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay

Leaving Swartz Bay: 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. have been cancelled.

Leaving Tsawwassen: 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. have been cancelled.

Tsawwassen-Duke Point

Leaving Duke Point: 10:15 a.m., 3:15 p.m., 5:45 p.m. have been cancelled.

Leaving Tsawwassen: 12:45 p.m., 3:15 p.m., 5:45 p.m. have been cancelled.

Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay

Leaving Horseshoe Bay: 10:40 am, 1:00 pm, 3:45 pm, 5:30 pm, 6:35 pm have been cancelled.

Leaving Departure Bay: 10:40 am, 1:00 pm, 3:20 pm, 5:55 pm have been cancelled.

Tsawwassen-Gulf Islands

From Long Harbour: 3:35 pm
From Otter Bay: 4:25 pm, 9:25 pm
From Village Bay: 5:10 pm, 8:50 pm
From Sturdies Bay: 5:45 pm, 8:15 pm
From Tsawwassen: 7:10 pm

Powell River-Comox

From Comox: 9:55 am
From Powell River: 11:50 am

Campbell River-Quadra Island

From Quadra Island: 9:00 am, 10:00 am
From Campbell River: 9:30 am, 10:30 am

Environment Canada says that winds are expected to carry on throughout the late morning and persist into the evening right across Vancouver Island.

Experts anticipate the winds to ease by Tuesday night.
