230 new COVID-19 cases, 3 deaths recorded in Island Health over the weekend

British Columbia health officials on Monday reported 2,239 new COVID-19 cases — including 230 in Island Health — and 18 new deaths over the weekend.

The number of confirmed cases in B.C. is now at 184,780 while the death toll climbs to 1,940.

Sept. 24-25: 876 new cases
Sept. 25-26: 657 new cases
Sept. 26-27: 706 new cases

Three of the deaths recorded over the weekend were in Island Health, bringing the region’s death toll to 63. Fifteen people have died from COVID-19 in the Island Health region since Sept. 1.

There are currently 6,098 active cases in the province, 303 people in hospital — 141 of whom are in intensive care. The provincial government says there are 657 active cases in the Island Health region.

In addition to the 230 cases recorded in Island Health over the weekend, there were 256 cases in Vancouver Coastal Health, 857 cases in Fraser Health, 525 in Interior Health, 358 in Northern Health, and 13 cases were in people who normally reside outside of the country.

A total of 176,354 people in B.C. have recovered from COVID-19 while 7,802,535 doses of vaccine have been administered province-wide.

Island Health

According to the latest update from Island Health, there are 554 active cases — 38 in North Island, 198 in Central Island and 318 in South Island — currently on Vancouver Island.

Thirty-two people in the region are currently in hospital with COVID-19, 18 of whom are in critical care.

Over the weekend there were 5,270 doses of vaccine administered in the region. Of those doses, 67 were AstraZeneca, 3,245 were Moderna and 1,958 doses were Pfizer.

A total of 1,299,951 vaccine doses — 625,344 of those are second doses — have now been administered on Vancouver Island. This includes 33,673 doses of AstraZeneca, 351,793 doses of Moderna and 914,485 doses of Pfizer.

Since the onset of the pandemic, there have been 8,393 cases reported, 63 deaths, 384 total hospitalizations, and 7,598 recoveries recorded on Vancouver Island.

Editor’s note: The BCCDC lists the active case count for Vancouver Island at 657, which is 103 more active cases than what Island Health has reported. There are often discrepancies between the figures due to “differences in reporting” timeframes between the two agencies.
