RCMP say the backpacks taken from two youth fishing at Comox Wharf have been returned to their owners.

The alleged theft happened on June 14 when surveillance footage showed a man and a woman walking away with the two black backpacks, Comox Valley RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.

But in an update Wednesday, police say the backpacks have been returned.

“Shortly after the request, one of the suspects came forward, indicated it was a miscommunication, and returned the backpacks to the Comox Valley RCMP detachment,” said Mounties.

“The owners have confirmed that all the belongings were inside and nothing was missing.”
