B.C. reports 3,144 COVID cases, 475 in Island Health

Health officials in B.C. are reporting there are 3,144 new confirmed cases of COVID in the province, 475 of which are in Island Health.

There were nine new deaths related to COVID in the province, two in Island Health.

There are 3,906 active cases in Island Health, which is 141 higher than Thursday.

In the province, there are 1,367 more active cases than Thursday, bringing the total to 33,184.

There are 349 people in hospital and 93 in intensive care in the province.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 276,875 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 20,763 in Island Health.

Since the previous COVID update, there were 1,416 new confirmed cases in Fraser Health, 483 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 526 in Interior Health, and 244 in Northern Health. There were no new confirmed cases in people who normally reside outside of Canada.

Between Dec. 30 and Jan. 5, of the 22,512 confirmed cases just under 83 per cent of the cases have been in fully vaccinated people, just under three per cent in partially vaccinated, and the rest in unvaccinated.

Between Dec. 23 and Jan. 5, of the 359 people who were hospitalized, just under 61 per cent were fully vaccinated, four per cent partially vaccinated, and 36 per cent unvaccinated.

Since the beginning of the vaccination campaign, there have been 9,604,331 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines administered in the province.
