Health officials in B.C. are reporting there have been 238 people admitted to the hospital with COVID in one week.

In the province, there are currently 438 people in hospital with COVID, and 38 in critical care.

This is an increase of 73 compared to last week, which is almost double the increase from the week before when hospitalizations rose by 40.

The latest COVID update, which is for the week of Apr. 10 to Apr. 16, shows the positivity rate in the province at 9.8, and in Island Health it is at 19.3.

The updated reported 2,036 people tested positive with PCR tests in the province, out of the 26,872 PCR tests conducted.

B.C. does not have a way for people to report rapid test results, and does not include rapid test results in COVID updates.

Currently only immunocompromised people, people with high-risk conditions, people 70 or older, people who aren’t fully vaccinated, or people whose medical care may be affected by a positive result are eligible for PCR tests.

In Island Health, there were 599 confirmed positive tests and 41 people were admitted to the hospital.

In the province, there are currently 438 people in hospital with COVID, and 38 in critical care.

The province notes in the update the hospitalization and death numbers may change when data becomes “more complete.”

There were 27 deaths in the province, seven of which were in Island Health.

This brings B.C.’s total number of deaths over 3,000, to 3,002.
