UPDATE: BC Hydro says the power has been restored following multiple outages across northern Vancouver Island Monday morning.

Thousands of northern Vancouver Island residents are without power Monday morning and a transmission circuit failure is to blame, according to BC Hydro.
The company says the power went out just after 7 a.m. affecting around 7,200 customers in Port McNeill, Port Hardy, Alert Bay, Port Alice and nearby areas.
BC Hydro crews are currently working to restore the outage.
