Saanich police have released an image of the man who robbed a Saanich gas station at gunpoint on Saturday morning.

Officers responded around 10 a.m. after a man allegedly entered the Chevron near Quadra Street and Cloverdale Avenue and pulled out a gun.

According to police, the cashier handed over some of the contents of the register before the suspect fled.

Police continue to search for the male suspect, who is described as possibly Asian with a receding hairline or possibly even bald, who stands around 5’9″ inches tall and was wearing dark clothing.

Monica Kroemer lives just steps away from the gas station and says the incident is alarming.

“It’s blown the tranquillity out of the water,” she said, “It’s scary.. pretty scary.”

Working just across the street, she says her worries go beyond her home.

“We don’t want him to rob us… well, be on needles and pins kind-of.”

Local business owner Wesley Ieong agrees that the incident has shocked the neighbourhood.

“I left at quarter to ten this morning and it was quiet. They told me it happened at about ten o’clock,” he said.

“It’s quiet, a very nice neighbourhood here. It is kind of scary [but] we think police will catch this guy.”

The gas station is equipped with security cameras and luckily the clerk did not suffer any injuries.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Saanich police at (250) 475-4321 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
