The Capital Regional District (CRD) says after testing water from Thetis Lake, there are no concerns of dangers to wildlife in the park.

The tests were completed after four animals, three deer and one beaver, were recently found dead, submerged in the water at Thetis Lake over a two-week span.

Officials say water samples showed no presence of blue green algae.

The CRD said Thursday that BC Conservation has informed the district that due to the animals’ state of decomposition, they are unable to perform necropsies.

“There are many natural ways animals can end up in the water, for example, being chased by predators,” a CRD statement said.

The district says it will continue to monitor Thetis Lake Regional Park and its wildlife closely.
