Island Health has confirmed that an additional staff member has tested positive for COVID-19 in connection with the outbreak at Saanich Peninsula Hospital.

With the new case, Island Health says that there have been a total of 10 staff and 10 patients who have tested positive for the coronavirus.

The outbreak at Saanich Peninsula Hospital was declared on Dec. 1 and Island Health says that no new sources of transmission have been identified.

Testing continues to confirm that the outbreak is limited to acute care areas of the hospital, says a press release from the health authority.

Island Health also highlights that patients in the acute care areas continue to be closely monitored for symptoms as patient and staff testing continues.

“It is important to note that other outpatient services, including medical imaging and day surgery, are open and we want people to know that it is safe to access these services,” adds the health authority.

The hospital remains closed to acute admissions, however, the emergency department is open and ready to provide safe care.
