Role Overview
CHEK News in Victoria has a full-time opportunity for a multimedia journalist position. A rare west coast opportunity to be part of a dynamic, independent newsroom and Vancouver Island’s
most-watched newscasts. This position is a 4-day work week with a weekend rotation, providing work-life balance.
Responsibilities
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills with strong storytelling ability
- As a journalist you will cover a range of news, arts, culture, sports, and events
- Ability to report and create content for multiple platforms, digital and broadcast
- Positive attitude with a strong team player skill set
- Engaged with current news and events locally and abroad
- Interviewing, writing, shooting, editing, producing, and reporting, of local news
- Potential opportunities to anchor our live newscasts
- Ability to generate story ideas and to complete scripting, editing and production of the story in preparation for publishing or airing
- Making effective editorial decisions
- Other related duties as assigned
This position reports to News Director, Scott Fee
Qualifications
- Journalism degree or diploma
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a related field
- Works well independently and as part of a team
- On air experience
- Must have valid drivers’ license and clean driving record
