Role Overview

CHEK News in Victoria has a full-time opportunity for a multimedia journalist position. A rare west coast opportunity to be part of a dynamic, independent newsroom and Vancouver Island’s
most-watched newscasts. This position is a 4-day work week with a weekend rotation, providing work-life balance.

Responsibilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with strong storytelling ability
  • As a journalist you will cover a range of news, arts, culture, sports, and events
  • Ability to report and create content for multiple platforms, digital and broadcast
  • Positive attitude with a strong team player skill set
  • Engaged with current news and events locally and abroad
  • Interviewing, writing, shooting, editing, producing, and reporting, of local news
  • Potential opportunities to anchor our live newscasts
  • Ability to generate story ideas and to complete scripting, editing and production of the story in preparation for publishing or airing
  • Making effective editorial decisions
  • Other related duties as assigned

This position reports to News Director, Scott Fee

Qualifications

  • Journalism degree or diploma
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a related field
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • On air experience
  • Must have valid drivers’ license and clean driving record
