Director of Finance

CHEK Media has an immediate opening for a Director of Finance.

An integral part of the senior leadership team, the Director of Finance reports to the General Manager and works closely with department leads and senior staff.

The Director of Finance will be expected to support strategic business planning and financial operations including budget planning, management, and oversight. This is mainly a hands-on role, with limited supports, and the successful candidate will be keen to complete tasks such as day-to-day operations for all finance-related activities, budgeting, financial management reporting and analytics, forecasting and cash flow management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day to day accounting related activities (including Bank deposits, A/P, A/R, Bank reconciliations, etc.).
  • Develop and implement finance and accounting related policies and programs in alignment with long term organizational goals.
  • Manage month-end closing processes, including preparing financial statements for various departments, the senior management team and the Board of Directors.
  • Manage and coordinate all financial reporting activities, including monthly financial statements and year-end working papers, including working with external auditors for the preparation of year-end working papers and year-end financial statements.
  • Manage all regulatory filings related to industry required reporting: CRTC, GST, PST, NR-4, and Statistics Canada survey completion.
  •  Work with the management team to oversee the overall budget process.
  • Manage Accounts Receivable and Account Payable duties.
  • Support the acquisition of capital assets and ensure the assets are properly recorded, amortized, and disposed of as appropriate.


  • University degree with a professional accounting designation CA or CPA, and/or possible equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in related and similar work; experience in the broadcasting industry is a definite benefit.
  • Advanced level proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.
  • Experience using accounting software such as Quick Books.
  • Proven ability to create financial models is a benefit
