Multiple were arrested after Del Manak, chief of the Victoria Police Department, was assaulted during an event in the city on Saturday.
Manak was attending a memorial event for Chantel Moore that was held on the south side of the B.C. Legislature when the incident happened.
At around 2 p.m., Manak was approached from behind by a woman, who then proceeded to pour some kind of liquid on him following a ceremony, according to a press release issued by the Victoria Police Department.
Manak, who had been invited by the Moore family to attend the event, was then assaulted, police say.
The female suspect was then surrounded by a group of other individuals, who then proceeded to surround attending VicPD officers, the release notes.
Police say five people were arrested and taken into custody.
There were no injuries and the incident was reportedly captured on video.
VicPD stressed that the suspects involved are not believed to have been involved in organizing the Chantel Moore memorial event.
