Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for north Vancouver Island on Saturday.

The weather agency says a storm system that is approaching the coast of British Columbia is creating “extremely strong winds” that could reach speeds of 110 km/h in areas on northern Vancouver Island.

“Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage,” Environment Canada said in a statement posted on its website Saturday.

Winds expected to ease later this evening, according to the weather agency.
