A 16-year-old boy died after being struck by a vehicle travelling along the Nanaimo Parkway on Saturday night.

Nanaimo RCMP says that officers received a call at approximately 10:38 p.m. on June 4 about a pedestrian that had been hit by a car in the southbound lanes of the Nanaimo Parkway.

When RCMP arrived on the scene, officers found it was a 16-year-old boy who had been hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

A vehicle has since been identified as being involved in the collision and has been seized by police.

Police say that the pedestrian was wearing dark-coloured clothing and that it was raining at the time of the collision, causing poor visibility.

Southbound lanes of the parkway were closed to traffic for three hours following the incident as BC Coroners and Traffic Analysts assessed the scene.

Police are currently investigating and searching for any possible witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area.
