One person was airlifted to hospital following a motor-vehicle incident on the Alberni Highway (Highway 4), east of Port Alberni, according to paramedics.

BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) says paramedics were called to the scene at 10:43 a.m. Sunday, June 30.

The Port Alberni Fire Department says it was a two-vehicle collision, adding in a social media post that the incident was west of Cathedral Grove.

Along with the air ambulance, which transported one person to hospital, three ambulances with primary care and advanced care paramedics were on scene.

An advanced care paramedic response unit also responded, according to BCEHS.

It says the person who was flown to hospital was first transported by ground to the air ambulance.

“Paramedics assessed another patient at scene but did not transport that patient to hospital,” a BCEHS spokesperson said in a statement.

A photo taken on the highway shows RCMP on scene, and Port Alberni Fire posted on X (formerly Twitter) around 10:45 a.m. warning people to expect delays.

CHEK News reached out to RCMP for more details.
