The Racquet Club of Victoria’s Figure Skating Club presents Toy Story…on Ice
Racquet Club coach Deena Beacom has undertaken an ambitious production for this Spring Break show, utilizing the skills & energy of the club’s youngest skaters along with some National & International performers.
According to Beacom, “It’s awesome. The older kids, they’re such role models for the younger kids and they love skating.”
And what about the overwhelming requirements of this show. Is it all worth it? “Of course. I definitely wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t love it.”
The starring roles of Woody & Jessie in the show go to International Competitors Leonardo & Pilar Maekawa, the locally raised & trained ice dancers who usually represent the country of their birth, Mexico. They are currently taking a year any from competition & coaching at the Racquet club.
“Everyday we come to the rink so excited and wanting to work on the choreography and bring all our ideas to the table & see what we can come up with. It feels good to give back to the skating community & give what we’ve learned in our experiences & pass it on to the new generation.”
Other competitive skaters perform as Buzz Lightyear & Bo Peep, Mr & Mrs Potato Head and even Barbie & Ken are in the show.
Toy Story runs Mar 19th & 20th at the Archie Browning Sports Centre in Esquimalt.
